The Detroit Lions, after a successful first year of partnership with sustainability brand REPREVE, Greensboro, N.C., announced a second consecutive year of partnership.

REPREVE transforms recycled plastic bottles into fibers used to make fabric found is large American brands such as Ford, Haggar, Polartec, Quicksilver and Volcom.

For the initiative, Lions starting quarterback Matthew Stafford, as well as the team’s other quarterbacks, wore REPREVE green jerseys made from recycled plastic bottles during the team’s Aug. 8 preseason scrimmage.

“We are very excited to have REPREVE back for another year of a great sustainable partnership,” says Detroit Lions Team President Tom Lewand. “Last year, Lions fans recycled nearly 60,000 plastic bottles at Ford Field. We look forward to the continuation of this aggressive recycling effort and showcasing REPREVE-based products created from recycled plastic bottles to our fans.”

REPREVE also will host a halftime challenge at Ford Field — the home of the Lions — during the season and launch a recycling tour later this year.
