The National Hockey League (NHL) and NHL Players Association recently accounced that SAP, Walldorf, Germany, will be the jersey sponsor for September’s World Cup of Hockey.
Each of the eight teams’ jerseys will be equipped with an SAP patch on the shoulder, part of the $25 million in sponsorships acquired by the NHL for the tournament, which begins Sept. 17, according to Sports Business Daily.
The patches will not appear on jerseys that recently went on sale to the public. NHL commissioner Gary Bettman has said in the past he is opposed to putting patches on jerseys during league play, something the NBA will begin doing this upcoming season. — M.Q.
